Why is gaming important in libraries? This session will explore how gaming can be accessed more readily and with greater ease; how gaming connects youth across both age-and socio-economic boundaries; and how gaming gives youth a verbal and knowledge-based “currency” to use to connect with one another, especially for those who identify as members of traditionally marginalized groups within society. With the growing popularity of game streaming, Let’s Play walkthroughs, and general access to gaming regardless of device, platform, or medium, giving youth access to games through the library is more paramount than ever. During this session, participants will get hands-on experience in breakout groups where they will get to play various games and learn more about this fun and engaging medium.
